Product Overview
In a SCADA environment, VFDs communicate directly with PLCs or remote I/O systems using analog signals (4–20 mA), digital I/O, or industrial communication protocols such as Modbus RTU/TCP, Profibus, or Ethernet/IP. SCADA systems use this data to display motor status, speed, current, fault conditions, and energy consumption on operator HMIs. Operators can remotely start/stop motors, change setpoints, and receive alarms related to overloads, overheating, or abnormal operating conditions. This level of integration enables fully automated pump stations and treatment processes with minimal manual intervention.
VFDs are widely used in raw water intake pumps, distribution booster pumps, filter backwash pumps, aeration blowers, and sludge handling systems. For example, in a pumping station, SCADA logic can adjust pump speed based on real-time flow or pressure feedback, ensuring stable system pressure while reducing wear on mechanical components. Soft starting and stopping provided by VFDs also reduce hydraulic shocks (water hammer), extending the lifespan of pipelines and valves.
